The Fort Wayne Adventure Games are an exciting City-Wide Competition where teams of two get to experience Fort Wayne like never before. Find a teammate and sign up for one of three fun-filled divisions. Bike throughout Fort Wayne to top secret locations only revealed just minutes before the start of the race. Checkpoints could include zip-lining, mental challenges and obstacles, swimming, climbing and more! Each checkpoint will highlight a modern attraction or historical tradition of Fort Wayne! Complete the most checkpoints within the time frame and be crowned champion of the Fort Wayne Adventure Games ’16!

The Fort Wayne Adventure Games feature three distinct divisions designed to accommodate varying fitness levels and provide a tailored experience for racers. Whether you are looking to just goof  around and have some family fun or push your physical limits, you’ll see that FWAG is an unparalleled, crazy fun race filled with surprises around every corner. Ages: 13 years and up

This Awesome Division is for Teams who like to do awesome things, but who don’t want to race around like maniacs all day. Duos will still conquer checkpoints and complete fun challenges. In this Division, Friendship and Enthusiasm are more important than Endurance or Physical Fitness.

Ages: 13 and up

The most popular division. Teams in the this division want to be challenged, but at a more friendly pace.

Ages: 18 years and up
Requirements: For Ultra Competitive Teams who are “In it to win it!” Fitness, Strategy, and Willpower are critical in this division.

  • 7:55AM: Elite RACE START
  • 8:00AM: Open RACE START
  • 8:05AM: Fun RACE START
  • 12:00PM: Race cut-off. All racers must report to finish line at this time regardless of unfinished check-points

The Basics

Teams of two are given a secret map of checkpoints scattered across Fort Wayne, each of which presenting a unique challenge that needs to be completed. The checkpoints can be completed in any order and vary based on the team’s division. Once a checkpoint has been completed, the volunteers there will scan the team’s map to record that checkpoint in our system and send them on their way. To be considered for 1st, 2nd or 3rd in any race division, a team must complete all of the checkpoints in the time allowed for the race. City streets ARE NOT blocked off, so team members must follow traffic rules and wear bike helmets while biking. No support crews are allowed.

  • All racers are expected to be examples of good sportsmanship. Racers must treat fellow racers & race staff with courtesy and respect.
  • Teams must assist fellow teams in need of medical attention.
  • Teammates must always remain within 20 yards of each other (unless otherwise specified).
  • Racers MUST mark their bikes so that they are identifiable as your own.The penalty for taking another racer’s bike is disqualification.
  • Electric or motorized bicycles are not permitted
  • Teammates must check in together at each checkpoint. If one member must leave the course, they must do so at a CP and notify race management.
  • Passports must be carried the entire race. The penalty for losing your passport is disqualification.
  • Race bibs must be worn on the outside of clothing at all times, except while completing water challenges. Race bibs do not have to be worn over packs. PENALTY: 1 hour per offense
  • Racers are responsible for ensuring that your passport is scanned at each checkpoint that you complete.
  • Race officials reserve the right to alter time cut-offs, or the course itself, to accommodate changing conditions and to ensure that teams finish on time. If your team is re-routed or there are other course changes, teams must sign the check-in sheet to acknowledge they understand the course change.
  • Racers must follow all traffic laws, signage and traffic lights. Disqualification will be immediate if disobeying any local or state traffic law.
  • Mandatory gear must be carried at all times and will be checked on the course.
  • No GPS of any kind, including GPS pace counters, are allowed.
  • Bicycle helmets are required at all times while on a bicycle and when specifically directed by race officials.
  • Racers must follow Rules of Travel as outlined in Course Instructions. Where no specific path is designated, teams select their path between check points. When instructions designate a specific route, teams must follow that path.
  • NO LITTERING! Leave no trace!
  • Race officials reserve the right to remove a team from the course for health, safety or other reasons, at the discretion of the race officials and medical personnel.
  • Any team withdrawing from the race must notify a “live” person by checking in with a checkpoint or FWAG volunteer or by calling the Race Director. Failing to notify race officials will result in that team being responsible for all search and rescue expenses.
  • Any protest must be filed in writing within one hour of the team’s finish and will be reviewed by the Race Committee.

Mandatory Check-list

  • Bicycle for each team member – road, mountain bike, or tandems.
  • You MUST tag or mark your bike in a way that makes it identifiable as YOURS. For example, a piece of tape with your name on it, balloons, string. Something that makes your bike unique!
  • Bicycle helmet for each team member
  • Athletic clothing that you do not mind getting messy (or wet!)
  • 1 cell phone (for selfies, no GPS!)
  • Minimum 1 bag per team (backpack, fanny pack, bike pack, etc.)
  • Water bottles (Bring plenty! Water will only be available at select checkpoints)
  • With the potential for a pool challenge, you are required to wear a bathing suit. Gym shorts and a sports bra are an acceptable substitute for pool attire. Street shorts, jean or khaki, and t-shirts are not acceptable. Plan accordingly.

How physically demanding is this event?

People of all fitness levels will enjoy the event and be able to compete! Participants do not have to be trained triathletes to be able to compete. However, Fitness and Endurance are important in the Elite Division.

What type of Bike can I use?

Mountain or Road, it is up to you. As long as it is not motorized or assisted in any way. Tandem bikes are also acceptable.

What is the route of the course?

There is no designated route for your team to travel on.  Checkpoints will be given and it is up to your team’s race strategy to find the best route.

Will my bike be safe?

Locking your bike is your choice. We will have designated Bike Parking areas at each checkpoint, however they may not be monitored by our volunteers. We have a Bike Security Zone, manned by volunteers before the start of the race but ultimately we are not responsible for damaged or lost bikes.

How much running do we have to do?

There are no required “Running, Sprinting, or Jogging” checkpoints. You will bike between checkpoints.

Can I skip challenges?

Yes, teams may skip any checkpoint that they feel uncomfortable completing. All challenges will be safe and fun. However, some may be more difficult or demanding than others. You also may choose to strategically skip checkpoints with longer lines, to save more time for the other checkpoints.

I want to sign up but I don't know the course.

No one does! The course map is stored away deep in an underground bunker that General Wayne used back in his time. The map will be released to each team 30 minutes before the start of the race where you will have time to study and create a plan of attack.

What's the point of this race?

Downtown Fort Wayne is full of hidden gems, where someone like yourself can have a good time.  This race is designed to highlight them!

Can my teammate do a challenge while I do another one?

No. Each team member must travel together at all times and do the same challenge simultaneously. Once a challenge is completed your team will be able to move on to your next checkpoint.

What happens if rains the day of the race?

The show must go on! To be honest, you’re probably going to get wet during the race anyway. Safety is our top priority. Therefore we will monitor the weather and if need be we will adjust the challenges accordingly.

I have 6 people that want to join, can we all be on one team?

Negative. However this doesn’t mean they can’t race, they can sign up in teams of two and everyone can tag along together.

Will we have to swim in the river?

Nope. All swimming challenges will take place at indoor or outdoor pools. However, there may be river challenges in which you may get wet on the river.

Can we use a GoPro?

Absolutely!  You may use a GoPro, however, some checkpoints may require you to take it off.

Will I be at a disadvantage coming from out of town?

Nope.  We will provide detailed maps where each checkpoint is located.  You may also choose to bring your own paper map.  Any digital or GPS devices will NOT be allowed.
